Dr. Emery works primarily with equine performance maintenance and enhancement, focusing on the areas of lameness, chiropractic, acupuncture, dentistry and podiatry. Using his blend of ancient healing techniques and modern technology, he strives to help horseman prevent lameness and other performance issues in their horses.
Performance Exams can help diagnose a number of underlying issues that may be causing performance problems. The exam consists of several tests designed to identify problem areas.
Movement Evaluation - Dr Emery will watch your horse move at a walk, trot and lope both on a straightaway and in a roundpen to determine gait abnormalities.
Joint Flexion- Ankle, knee and hock joints are flexed and held then released as the horse is immediately trotted off. Sore joints will become evident as the horse moves off stiffly displaying an abnormal gait from the resulting pain.
Acupoint Sensitivity Test- Acupressure points are checked for sensitivity and soreness to determine energy imbalances in the body resulting from underlying conditions such as spinal misalignments, joint soreness, illness, muscle strains, etc. Overly sensitive acupressure points may be treated with acupuncture to stimulate the point allowing the flow of energy to help the body heal itself.
