Our Story....
Beadle Lake Large Animal Clinic was established in 2004 at 7115 Tower Road in Battle Creek, Michigan. Since then, we have expanded to serve clients in a thirty-five to forty mile radius around Battle Creek.

We employ four veterinarians, have a variety of office staff and assistants, host veterinary and preveterinary students and encourage volunteers who want to learn about veterinary medicine. We love what we do and enjoy sharing our knowledge and experience by training and teaching others. We utilize veterinary magazines and periodicals and attend veterinary conferences and continuing education classes to increase our knowledge of cutting-edge veterinary practices and current animal health concerns.

Our mission statement:

"Beadle Lake Large Animal Clinic is here to help your animal(s) perform or produce at their maximum potential."

Dr Bob Emery integrates Western medicine, chiropractic care, and acupuncture with the philosophy of optimizing your animal’s health, healing and performance.  He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University in 1990. Since then, he has continued to enhance his education in order to provide the best service to animals in his care. He was certified in chiropractic in 2000 and acupuncture in 2002.

As a senior partner at BLLA, Dr Emery works primarily with equine performance maintenance and enhancement focusing on the areas of lameness, chiropractic, acupuncture, dentistry and podiatry. Using his blend of ancient healing techniques, along with modern technology, he strives to help horsemen prevent lameness in order to maintain optimum performance levels in their horses.

His memberships include: AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association), MEPA (Michigan Equine Practitioner and Association), AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners) and IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society with accreditations from the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture and AVCA.

Dr Jason Van Lente strives to combine quality veterinary care with a compassionate attitude. He focuses on reproductive performance utilizing the most advanced techniques such as embryo transfer, Artificial Insemination and ultrasound.

Along with the equine practice, he is involved in livestock production, working on some of today’s toughest challenges, such as mastitis, along with other herd health concerns. As a herd health practitioner, Jason not only concentrates on the symptoms of ailments, but also the underlying causes and impact they may have on other animals in the herd.

Jason has Bachelor of Science degrees from Michigan State in Fisheries and Wildlife and Animal Science, graduating with his DVM degree in 2003. He is a member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr Shawn Dolan developed a passion for horses when she began riding at the age of four.  By age eleven she was working at a local farm in Augusta, Michigan, being fully responsible for her pony, Junior. In 1998, she received a Bachelors degree in Animal Science from Michigan State University.  She later received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State in 2005.

In June of 2007, she became certified in animal chiropractic.  She believes in preventing and treating performance issues through chiropractic.  Dr. Dolan works with small ruminants and recently began working on alpacas.  She has begun educating herself on their health care.

She is trained in Equine Massage therapy and often incorporates this into her chiropractic care.  She is a member of the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association  and the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
During her free time Dr. Dolan enjoys riding her horse, Bullet and spending time with her two goats, Arnie and Ernie.  She also volunteers weekly for E.A.R.T.H., an animal rescue and the Cheff Center, a therapeutic riding facility.

Dr Katie Anderson grew up in Watervliet, MI riding hunter/jumpers. This early start with horses and her interest in the sciences is what led her to a career in veterinary medicine.

Katie graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology in 2003. As a student she competed on MSU’s equestrian team.  She attended MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine focusing on the equine specialty as a student. During her veterinary education, Katie visited BLLA for 3 weeks and really enjoyed her time at the clinic.  After graduating from MSU CVM in the spring of 2008 she became the newest edition to Beadle Lake Large Animal Clinic.

Although Katie enjoys working with all species, she is particularly interested in equine medicine. A few of her specific interests include equine upper airway disease, equine gastrointestinal disease and endoscopy.  Her favorite cases are emergencies because she likes surprises and thinking on her feet. Katie enjoys traveling to different farms, meeting new people and working with their animals.

Katie is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association and the Michigan Equine Practitioners Association.
